Arte Olmeca

Arte Olmeca, or Olmec art, refers to the artistic expression and material culture of the Olmec civilization, which flourished in Mesoamerica from approximately 1400 to 400 BCE. This early culture is known for its distinctive artistic style, which includes colossal stone heads, intricately carved jade figurines, pottery, and other artifacts. Olmec art is characterized by its bold forms, naturalistic representations, and the use of symbolic motifs, often reflecting the culture’s beliefs, mythology, and social structure. The colossal heads, in particular, are iconic representations of Olmec art and are thought to depict rulers or significant figures of the society. Olmec art laid the foundation for subsequent Mesoamerican cultures, influencing their artistic styles and religious iconography.
